Impressions Of Filming

For the past two lessons we have been filming the preliminary task. We opted to use the media classroom because it looked most like a business room that an interview would take place in. The group did walk around school to try and find somewhere more suitable however, we found that this room would be free for the duration we needed it and the lighting was good.

Fundamentally filming the project was the most important feature of this exercise because we had to make sure we included the match on action, 180 degrees rule and shot reverse shot techniques. Because we had planned our storyboard well and followed it well this wasn’t to hard to include however, sometimes it was hard to include them because due to filming problems some things had to be changed.

We worked well as a group and got the filming done efficiently and to a good standard, luckily, if one person wasn’t happy with what had happened in the scene the rest of the group followed suit and we changed or re-filmed it making the experience more relaxed. Furthermore, because we had four in our group it made the management of  the camera work and sound easier because whilst I did the filming another person held the microphone to pick up dialogue whilst the other two acted. All in all, we managed to fit all three techniques into our short scene and even though for the shot, reverse shot we had to change the dialogue a little to make it make more sense and also look better, there is still the element of it there during a conversation.

The hardest thing about filming is to know what camera angle and which shots looked best and because we had planned to use so many different camera angles and heights it was hard to know when to change the camera and at which time. However in the safety that we could edit some of them out to make it seem more professional allowed room for error and hopefully if any filming really didn’t go to well we can re-do them. We were all fairly ignorant on how to use to use the equipment for example the microphone yet it all came together to produce a piece of filming the whole group is happy with.
